Accompanying children at the end of their lives in Côte d'Ivoire: care as a gift

Roseline N’Da GBOCHO’s research examines the place and role of volunteers as caregivers in end-of-life care for children in Côte d’Ivoire. Her aim is to demonstrate that, alongside the caring practices of health professionals, there is a social market for care that remains little-known, even though these volunteers provide a large proportion of the social services that nursing staff are unable to cover. Aware of the important role they play in responding to requests for relational care, how do volunteers negotiate the place assigned to them for greater social visibility?
