It was during the Foundation’s event on November 13, 2024, at the École des Mines Paris that the Foundation awarded its 2024 Research Prizes. Three outstanding laureates were recognized, with two prizes of 3000 € and one honorary award.

Joël GLASMAN

Research award worth : 3000 €

Joël Glasman is a historian and professors at the University oàf Bayreuth, Germany. His research focuses on the contemporary history of West Africa, colonial history, and humanitarian aid.

He is being recognized for his historical research on humanitarianism, governance, and humanitarian knowledge, as well as his advocacy for the use of social sciences and humanities by practitioners in international solidarity.

The award was presented to him by Anne Rasmussen, historian, research director at EHESS, and member of the Board of Directors of the French Red Cross Foundation.

Eliott RAKOTOMANANA

“Future” Research Award Worth 3000

Mr. Eliott Rakotomanana is a health anthropologist at the Institut Pasteur in Madagascar.

He is being recognized for his research in health anthropology on child malnutrition and his commitment to addressing public health challenges in Madagascar.

The award was presented to him by Virginie Troit, Executive Director of the Foundation.

Fiona TERRY

Honorary award

Fiona Terry, a doctor in international relations and political science, leads the Operational Research and Experience Centre (CORE) at the ICRC, established following the landmark study Containing Violence in War: Sources of Influence on Combatants, of which Dr. Terry was a co-author.

She is being recognized for her career dedicated to bridging social sciences and humanitarian practices in conflict situations, as well as her commitment to operational and participatory research within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The award was presented to her by Yvan Conoir, a member of the Foundation’s Scientific Council.

The French Red Cross Foundation’s Research Awards aim to highlight completed scientific work or innovative areas of research dedicated to humanitarian and social issues, both in the Global North and South.

Open to all disciplines in the social sciences and humanities and to all nationalities, the awards recognize scientific excellence and human commitment, promote scientific knowledge, ethical reflection, and social innovation to advance action in service of the most vulnerable.
