Ten Years of Research at the Heart of vulnerabilities: a formula that illustrates the tremendous progress made by our association in creating an open and independent space capable of giving voice to new ideas in the service of humanitarian and social action.

By supporting researchers from diverse backgrounds, linking the operational and academic worlds, and opening up to the international community, we have been promoting research rooted in reality for a decade, in a context of unprecedented disruption and fragility. Recognised as a public utility, the Foundation is now an integral part of a multidisciplinary ecosystem that allows the French Red Cross to take a step back in order to better understand, adapt and therefore act more effectively.

These ten years have been an opportunity to continue and amplify this remarkable momentum, with the aim of better understanding and grasping the major changes our societies are undergoing.

International Conference “Humanitarian Transition: current status of a concept being challenged by crises”

In 2023, the Foundation discussed ten years of research into vulnerabilities in France and internationally. To mark the occasion, it organised an international conference in Paris on Thursday 26 October, in partnership with the IRD and Sciences Po’s School of International Affairs.

This conference was the culmination of a series of events and publications throughout 2023, with the aim of taking stock of ten years of research and looking ahead to the future. It examined the concept of humanitarian transition in the light of recent major crises during five thematic round tables. The publication The Essentials: 10 Years of Research at the Heart of Vulnerabilities, which brings together key findings and avenues for better understanding and action, was officially launched on that day.
