USE OF ICT BY ELDERLY IMMIGRANTS IN SITUATIONS OF RELATIONAL VULNERABILITY: TOWARDS INCREASED USE IN SUPPORT OF DISTANCE SOCIAL LINKS AND WELL-BEING?

In order to support the remote social bond and the well-being of elderly immigrants in a situation of relational vulnerability, it is important to better understand and encourage the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). Indeed, information and communication technologies (ICT) are poorly known and little used by older migrants and social and health professionals, even though they can help prevent vulnerability among older immigrants. This study aims to explore the representations associated with the use of ICT among older immigrants in the prevention of relational vulnerability.

More specifically, the article answers the following questions: what are the experiences of older migrants in the use of ICT? To what extent do ICTs contribute to improving their social bond and well-being and what are their limits? What are the perceptions that the study participants have of ICTs as innovative solutions in the socio-health support of older people?

Biography

A PhD in sociology (University of Le Havre Normandy, 2018), Emmanuel Niyonsaba defended a thesis on the experiences of aging of the elderly in Senegal with a particular interest in the challenges of maintaining traditional solidarity and the difficulties of relatives in supporting vulnerable elderly parents in a context of social transformations. In his recent work (Quebec/Canada) and in progress (France), he is interested in the prevention of vulnerability among the elderly, particularly immigrants, and in innovative solutions, particularly ICT, in supporting remote social ties and well-being.
