RISK PERCEPTION AND SOCIAL COHESION IN LEBANON
This research project aims to provide the most comprehensive understanding possible of the specific socio-demographic situations of resident communities, whether refugees or not, who face the same risks. Supporting the development of relevant risk reduction strategies will therefore benefit all exposed populations. To achieve this, several factors influencing behavior must be taken into account, including the values, beliefs, attitudes, preferences, habits, cost-benefit assessments, social norms, policies and institutions of each community, as well as the complex social cohesion between very different social groups. This research provides keys to understanding the tenets of social cohesion between different groups inserted in the two communities that are the subject of the research: residents inserted into Lebanese society; Syrian refugees settled since the beginning of the civil war that is ravaging their country. Articulating environmental issues with socio-political and economic issues, their perceptions of risk, the different factors likely to influence preventive behaviors, tactics and strategies deployed in the event of a disaster will be described and analyzed.
